Shaina

Shaina began her yogic journey in 2007. As a member of the Illini Competitive Cheer and Tumble Team, she was a well-conditioned athlete with a refined sense of biomechanical awareness.  A traumatic car accident resulted in a sudden shift from the competitive arena into the yogic community.  Shaina began her yoga practice on a journey of rehabilitation only to discover her own limitlessness.  She enjoyed taking different styles of yoga; mixing long-held alignment based Hatha classes, with flowing breath-centered power yoga classes. In 2010, Shaina began to practice Yin Yoga, a slow-moving restorative asana practice. Yin yoga left her with a sense of deep connection to her Self.

A desire to share the yoga practice prompted her to begin teaching friends and family informally. In 2012, Shaina completed a 200 hour Yoga Certification with Mary Wolters, CYT. Shaina has a unique style of blending broad movement based asana with subtle recognition of energetic alignment. Recognizing that many professional athletes now seek out yoga instruction to preserve their athleticism; Shaina aims to promote longevity, awareness, and enhanced wonder in the human mind, body, and spirit. Shaina believes in cultivating core strength on the yoga mat for students to carry with them on their individual journeys off the mat.

Shaina has temporarily moved from CU to pursue a law degree.  She continues to be a part of the LYC family and will be in town to teach a Yoga Gives class when time and studies permit.
