This workshop will provide basic information on anatomy as applied to asana practice. We will explore ten key muscle groups, conditioning principles related to strength and flexibility, and neuromuscular facilitation in selected asanas. We will also explore the anatomy and function of the diaphragm in relationship to pranayama. Through lecture, discussion and practice, workshop participants will learn key anatomical principles applicable to teaching yoga and personal yoga practice.
Jan Erkert has a lifetime practice in contemporary dance, Astanga & Flow Yoga, and Body Mind Centering, and received her Yoga Teacher Certification in 2017. Ms. Erkert has taught anatomy and kinesiology to dancers in Higher Education for over 20 years and has developed an approach that provides practitioners theoretical knowledge and embodied experiences that will assist them in building a safe and efficient physical practice.
