Introduction to GYROKINESIS®
With Shannon Stewart
Sunday February 1, 2015 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm The Living Yoga Center (217) 351-8359 livingyogacenter.net |
This Gyrokinesis class will introduce you the fundamental principles of a Gyrokinesis practice–connecting breath to movement, spiral, expansion, stabilization through contrast and supple strength.
Developed by a professional dancer recovering from a serious injury, Gyrokinesis is a movement system that has since been adapted for movers of all ages and levels. This system offers a practice of core strengthening that includes qualities of suppleness, length and expansion. It focuses on the seven natural elements of spinal movement as well as joint openness and articulation. Gyrokinesis increases your body’s natural range of motion through the dynamic and rhythmic use of breath. It can serve as a complement to a yoga practice, other somatic practices, is a perfect support for rigorous athletic or physical endeavors, and a big stress reliever for lives of any style.
Shannon Stewart is a contemporary performance artist, choreographer, and movement educator. She has trained, taught and performed nationally and internationally and has cultivated a lifelong somatic and yoga practice alongside her dance training. Shannon is interested in tools that help us listen and communicate with our bodies more clearly, gently, and productively.
