Living Yoga Center Notes: LYC CLOSURES – The Center will be closed Thursday, July 3, and Friday, July 4. Summer Schedule Begin Monday, June 2. For the class schedule, click Summer Schedule 2008. NEW INTRO TO BASICS CLASS BEGINS TUESDAY, June 3 : This 8-week course introduces the fundamentals of hatha yoga which include seated and standing asanas (poses), breath awareness, and relaxation techniques. Students attend one class per week on Tuesdays at 7:15p. Cost is $80 for the 8-week course; $64 for students (with ID) or Senior citizens 55 and over. No registration is necessary. Summer Restorative Classes will be offered Friday July 11, & August 8th, 5:30p-6:30p – Restorative yoga helps to trigger the parasympathetic nervous system and is responsible for balancing the body and bringing its response system back into equilibrium. It also helps to lower heart rate and blood pressure, stimulate the immune system, and keep the endocrine system operating efficiently and is beneficial for overall body health. We will be holding each pose for up to 10 minutes with the support of various props, such as bolsters, blankets, blocks, sandbags, and straps. This class will be offered one Friday a month on the following dates: July 11 and August 8. The drop-in fee for this class is $8.00. If you have a LYC card, the cost is $6 (or can be taken off of a 1-hr. class card). Please bring a blanket to class. This class will be taught by LYC instructor, Addie Gross. FORMS OF PAYMENT ACCEPTED AT LYC: The Center only accepts CASH & CHECKS. NO CREDIT CARDS ARE ACCEPTED. Gaylen Lecher Scholarship Fund. One of our students has graciously donated money to create a scholarship fund for a new yoga student, who would not ordinarily have means to attend yoga classes, the opportunity to do so. The scholarship is for ONE 8-week session of the Intro to Basics yoga classes. Applicants must demonstrate financial need by writing a letter to the director, Deb Lister, with an explanation of need situation. The letter should be sent to 707 W. Main St., Urbana, Il, 61801.
